Widnes 3rds and several colts in their transition week travelled away to play Northwich 3rds, who had a strong team with plenty of spare players, aiming to win their first match of the season. The hosts led from the start, dominating Widnes during the first 15 minutes and showing their speed in the centres. Widnes gained some composure and started their fight back, defending much better and attacking more, resulting in more time spent in the hosts' half. At no point did Widnes give up, slow down or drop their heads. We kept the fight up to the very last minute when we converted our second try.
The colts had a great game, defending well and having some great runs through Northwich’s defence. Thanks to Chris Hopkins for playing his last game with us and a special mention goes to Joe Finch for a brilliant game at Full Back, putting in some impressive defence and several times outrunning the opponents' youths to gain valuable ground for us.
Try scorers were Phil Barker and Ryan Vickery, who converted both tries.
