We are saddened to announce the passing of Wids old boy, Bill Spencer.

Bill joined the WIDS in the early 60s and played Rugby mainly for the Second Team. He also played a few First Team games at Prop or Second Row but injured his knee and retired from Rugby. He joined the Social Committee at the WIDS in the 60s and 70s which included organising the Marquee Balls.

In the late 60s Bill married Rosemary Grace, sister of George Grace – Captain, Chairman and President of ICI Rugby Union and eventually Birchfield Rugby Union Clubs.

He became a Pub Landlord and his second Pub was the Beehive in Halebank for a number of years, followed by the Lingholme Pub in St Helens. He eventually became Manager at the ICI Rec in Widnes until he retired and another old WID, Harry Potter, took over.

Bill suffered with arthritis in his knee and found the climate in Lanzarote to be extremely beneficial, so he emigrated there following his retirement from the ICI Rec. When he returned to England, he moved down to Bishop Stortford to be with his daughter and family.

Bills funeral Mass will take place at 2pm on July 13th at St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Stansted Mount Fitchett, Essex. Family flowers only please. Donations to Harlow Hospital will be welcomed.
