Former Club Captain Paul Woodward organised and supervised an impressive turnout from Holy Rosary School, Aintree at Heath Road yesterday. While it is some time that the Wids has hosted one of these events, Paul - now a member of the first team coaching staff - decided that the Rugby World Cup provided an impetus to revive the tradition. He's not one to do things by halves; as well as club members, he called on Lancashire RFU and Cheshire Fire Service for support. Sure enough, he got it. If the children didn't enjoy their day out, they are very good bluffers with two shifts (morning and afternoon) split into three groups discovering the surprising educational value of a Rugby club. Past President Gary Clare advised the visitors to call him Spike before guiding them around the lounge and committee room to complete a 12 question Heritage Quiz. On the car park, Sam Bryan proved popular, giving a talk and demonstration of fire engine equipment. Having done a tour of the changing rooms, each party was introduced to Dave Griffiths before taking part in a fitness session on his carefully marked-up and mown pitch.
